Gma and Gpa: Final Day in Haiti

Oh wow...Today was Grandpa and Grandma S's last day in Haiti! It was not very easy to kiss Trey Amos goodnight and put him down in his little bed, knowing they would not see him in the morning.

I am a little worried about Trey Amos too. I'm sure he is going to wake up and wonder where those people are--the ones that loved him so much and played with him every extra second of the day! Oh dear. I hope he is not too confused by it all. He has volunteers going in and out of his life all the time, but he also has the nannies at the orphanage who are a stable constant in his life, which is very good. But still, the turn-over of caregivers and volunteers in such a young life can be a risk for attachment issues later on. Fortunately there ARE many strategies that we can put in place once he is home with us to promote attachment.

If we all had our way, they would put him in a suitcase and smuggle him back to Canada! But unfortunately, that's just not the way it works!

Grandpa and Grandma S were already getting crazy ideas in their heads about going back to Haiti for Christmas, however then they found out that there aren't any volunteers over the Christmas season. So now, they are thinking about Spring Break!!! (If Trey Amos is not home by then...which would be an absolute miracle.) Well, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Gma and Gpa: Day 5 in Haiti

I am a little late posting these, but here are a few pictures from yesterday. Yesterday I was in that mood again...I was completely convinced we should sell the house, sell everything we own, quit our jobs, temporarily leave our beloved Sam with our folks, and MOVE TO HAITI!!!! Just for the next year or so...while we wait for this adoption to be completed! Is that such a bad idea? Brady has to reign me in a bit sometimes...:)

Gma and Gpa: Day 4 in Haiti

My mom and dad wrote today about the wonderful nannies and nurses at GLA. They know all the children so well and give them so much love and care. We are so glad Trey Amos is in such a good place while we wait for him to come home!

Unfortunately my dad wasn't feeling so great today. Hoping it's nothing, because I know he doesn't want to miss a minute of this trip.

Haiti just looks so beautiful in the view from the orphanage. It's such a beautiful country, but also a suffering country. Many people do not have enough food or access to medical care. There are many many children without homes or families. I read recently that Canada has forgiven Haiti's debt in an effort to help Haiti rise to a better place. I am glad that the Canadian government could at least do this to help Haiti.

Another Busy Day at GLA

My mom and dad emailed that Trey Amos seemed to be a little under the weather today...possibly teething. But it was another great day with Trey Amos and all the other little ones.

Mom and Dad S are having an awesome time in Haiti with Trey Amos. They are very busy as they each have seven other little ones to work with every day, and are helping out with other chores around the orphanage.

My mom and dad made it safely to Haiti and were so thrilled to meet Trey Amos. They said he is PRECIOUS...very snuggly, and very active! He is almost crawling but not quite. He was a little unsure about Grandpa's beard though...
